The Bikini
A two-piece swimsuit was first launched in 1946 in Paris by a French designer Louis Reard. He called the world’s smallest bathing suit The bikini. In the 1930s, women used to wear a type of a bathing suit which covered more of the woman’s body. It consisted of a halter top, high waist and wide-leg shorts. In the post war years when the bikini appeared, it was a great sensation. Soon after, it was banned and declared sinful by the Vatican. The first public figure who posed in the bikini and contributed to its popularity was Marilyn Monroe.
